E D I T O R I A L

Sunday, December 31: Briefly noted

An extremely limited week for movie-watching - I didn't even get to any recent releases! Early in the week I spent hours watching the American classic Gone With the Wind, which is about half impressive-staged action and half overbaked melodrama. As the week wound on, I caught up on some titles starring Lau Ching-Wan, namely, The Longest Nite, Expect the Unexpected, and Full Alert. My impression of him as one of my favorite actors was definitely deepened. And it made me hope that director Patrick Yau keeps working - Expect the Unexpected was tremendously effective.

Coming up next week, I hope to have a few new reviews of Y2K releases and maybe a miniature year-end round-up.

As usual, feedback, whether positive or negative, is always welcome.

Peter
