A Week Without Words

Monday, September 17, 2001 — It's impossible for me to recap the past few days in a balanced way. Friends of mine that worked in the World Trade Center all checked in. Unfortunately, some of their friends have been lost (one dead, a dozen more missing). The physical, emotional, and mental damage is difficult, perhaps impossible, to calculate.

So updates will continue to be scarce for a while, especially the next week. I've posted a couple of reviews written last Monday, and have also updated the "Upcoming" and "In Cinemas" pages. If nothing else, I'll try to keep those pages current.

And in the meantime, I appreciate seeing the efforts made by most sites on the "Links" page to keep moving forward, while including kind expressions of condolences and support for victims of the tragedy. If ever someone needed evidence that a tragedy such as this is felt worldwide, check out the sites from as far afield as Canada, Hong Kong and Europe, wherein the webmasters were moved to express themselves.

Satchel Paige, American baseball player, once said, "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you."

On the other hand, George Satayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Or, as Nick Cheung said in the recent Runaway, "Maybe I've watched too many heroic films."

As always, please feel free to e-mail me your comments, whether positive or negative.
